Read,Watch,Create! My Final Outsiders Thoughts.
Do you want to know something about the outsiders? Well let me tell you a little about what I’ve been up to in novel study this year. We have been working with a Class fromLos Angeles to read a book called the outsiders, watch the movie and team up in separate groups and topics to do a project. I was in a group with Jonathan and Lionel. Our group was called family violence 2. If you want to hear some more your just going to have to wait. Anyways I’m going to start with the book.
The Book: I have many things to say about a book called The Outsiders. It is a little bit of an older novel because my dad read it in school but I thought it was very interesting and sad how they all got along like family. Some of the events are outstanding so I’ say the book is like a roller coaster with many twists and turns.
Another interesting thin about it is how the author decided to put the book in Ponyboy’s point of view. As we all know it makes it seem like Bob and Randy are the bad guys but switch it around and Poyboy and them are. Another thing that I would like to talk about is the fact that this book is based on many themes. The themes are in fact very important like teen violence and stuff. It really makes me think about how much gang violence and stuff is going on and that teenagers are starting to drink to much and when they drink lots and get drunk then they turn stupid. I think this book sends out a message of just how bad things can get and how bad they are getting. I didn’t realize how much a family with no parents could be so strong. I guess that was because he had such good friends.
Next that brings me to the characters. Let me start with Ponyboy. He was a fourteen year old living with his brothers and greasers in the east end of town. He goes to schooland sometimes has a rough time. Another character is Sodapop. He is 16 and is halping look after Ponyboy who is his younger brother. He is a good kid. The next parson is Darry. He is Soda and Ponys older brother. He is good looking and works at a gas place. The next people are Dally and Johnny. They are the three brothers friends and are not loved by their parents. Johnny got beat up by a soc before. The last two characters are Randy and Bob. Two socs from the west side of town. They got drunk lots and picked on the greasers until one night Johnny stood up forPonyboy and killed Bob. Randy was then useless. There is also one other thing i would like to talk about. The movie.
The Movie: Now its time to talk about The Outsiders movie. There were many similarities and differences from the movie. Some similarities are that they both were based on the same storyline and they both had the same important main events. A few differences are that the movie was missing some parts that the book had, the book had more interesting parts and a different ending. After watching this movie we did a final project.
The project: To end off our study with the outsiders we got into groups of three or four with the class weve been working with from Los Angeles. I wan in a group with Jonathan and Leonel. We picked to do family violence 2. For our project we decided to do a video. We didnt do very well because we werent communicating enough and because we were having problems communicating. Once we got past that then the boys from L.A shot the video then sent it to me. I got it the other day so I can try to start editing it. If I were to do this project again then I wouldprobobly choose to use a different thing to do like a slide which you can share and acess easily because for the video they had to shoot it then try send it on email. I also think it is just a little bit hard to work with.
I think this was a pretty fun novelstudy because we got to read an interesting book and work a little with it by writing blog posts for each chapter which I didnt like very much, watch the movie then interact with a class from far away to make a project.
