The Bet

 Anton Chekov

The Bet is a story my class has been reading in Language Arts. It is a story that has to do with power and relationship. Here is a little about the story.

The story: In the story a lawyer and a banker are talking about capital punishment. The lawyer said that both execution and prison are even but he would choose prison. The banker disagreed and thought execution was better. He thought being in prison would be wasting your life away but the lawyer thought if you were executed you wouldn’t get to live. The banker said he bet 2 000 000.00 rubles that he couldn’t stay in prison for 5 years but then the lawyer said he would stay in prison for 15 years. His prison was a wing of the banker’s house and the doors were unlocked so he could leave at anytime. He read to pass his time away then he started to write. On the night before release the banker went to check on the lawyer since 15 years. He was going to kill him because he was broke and didn’t want to give him money but then he discovered a note and the lawyer escaped 5 minuets early so he didn’t get the money.

Power and Relationships: Power is shown in relationships between people for example if you decide to go out and your mom or dad gives you a curfew then you have to be home at time or else you’ll get in trouble because they have power over you. This is a healthy and good kind of power. Power can change relationships for the better or for the worst. If you are abused or yelled at then your relationship will fall apart but if you have good healthy controlling power then relationships will grow stronger. You want good and healthy power because you need relationships in your life to influence you or to guide you through life. Power can change you because it could make your life safer and better or it could hurt you in a physical or unhealthy way.

This story shows power and relationships because the banker and the lawyer had a bad relationship and the banker had control over what the lawyer could do or eat for fifteen years of his life which is a lot of time. It was also the lawyer’s choice to stay in the wing because the door was unlocked and he could leave at anytime if he wanted to

On Wedsnesday Sept.26 our jr.girls volleyball team which I am on competed in a game against Cranberry Portage. It was our first game of the season. We didn;t do the best job but we tried our hardest and thats what counts. We lost all three of our games with a score of 25-10, 25-9 and 25-6. At the end our team mixed with Cranberry’s team and we played against the new teams. These games had a much closer score. We have been improving since that game and are goin to their school on October 3. We will play another few games and hopefully play better and have closer scores. We get to leave at lunchtime then. It is going to be fun!

Bye for now. Keep you uptaded soon!

Video games in class! About Simcity

Right now in social studies I am learning about cities and societies so my teacher Mr.Fisher is letting us play Simcity. What is Simcity did you say? Let me tell you!

Beginning: In the beginning of the game you get to pick your spot to build your town and decide how you want the land to be like if you want it level, hilly or if you want trees. To start off you get $100 00. You have to start building houses, roads and industries. You also need to have some kind of power and water source. If you start adding schools and safety then the little arrows will start to go up, people will start moving in and your city will just start to grow. The purpose of the game is to build a good society with happy citizens and be the mayor of it. You have to raise and lower taxes and do what mayors do. Here is a little advice I have to give you about the computer game!

Some Advice: There are a few things that I have learned playing the game. one of the things is that you need to use your money wisely or else you will run out and your city will not get their needs and your big city will turn into a ghost town. Another thing I learned is that it is important to have lots of roads so people can get around because when I was building my city I had a whole bunch of roads but they ‘t connected so my Sims and emergency crews couldn’t get anywhere without getting stuck. Another important thing I have learned is that you have to have water everywhere, power everywhere and some kind of industrial building because you start off with no people and you need all of that stuff in order for the Sims to move in. This is just a little something that I have learned playing the game Simcity!

What that government does for the society

In order to have a society the government has jobs to do. They are not to build a house or make the building but are in charged for more important issues like water and taxes.

The essentials: Some of the things the government has to do is make sure there is water, make suitable taxes, make stores or businesses, make sure there is power, make sure there is some source of education, have health care and have some sources of safety like Police, Fire etc. If the government does not have any of the following then no one will move in and the society wont make progress. A lot of people think it is nice the government does things for some societies.

The `nice` things: Some of the things the government does that is nice is that they give our country voting rights, good quality paved roads, public service announcements, give us museums to look at and study and child care and family services for people who need help and a loving family. The government also does extra things that we are thankful for

The Extra`s: The government does stuff for us that they don’t have to do but want to. This makes the people in the society happy. Some of those things are having help programs like alcohol help, MADD and other good programs, plowing services to have in the winter so we can get around because we get lots of snow here and government clubs like Girl Guides, Legion Auxiliaries and others. This is what the government has to do with helping build a society.

The Blog vs The Paper!

The Blog: A blog is a little something on a computer where a person can go to write about special times, hobbies and interests, bands, communities and anything else you can think of. on a blog you will most likely find links to placesthe blogger talked about or just links to places they thought were cool or interesting. This way they can read it for themselves or find out a little more about the post they wrote about. On a blog you can also meet people or learn about other cultures or religions. blogs are going to be the next way of communicating or meeting friends. Just make sure you follow the rules and use Internet safety!
The Paper: Some people like to tell about themselves or something they did on a piece of paper. On a piece of paper some people like to describe a little more than on a blog because you can not just click on a word and get taken to a place that better describes what you’re talking about. Writing on paper is safer than making a blog because if you accidentally write too much personal information you can catch it in time and stop it. You can never be too safe. Writing can be dangerous to because if you are sending it off somewhere and it gets into the wrong hands then you are in trouble. Writing can be just as fun as blogging and you have to be just as careful!

Blogging and Writing are similar and different. With blogging you can make links, add cool animations and look at all of your friends blogs or people your age. On paper you can’t make links so you can get to somewhere easily. You can still draw cool pictures and explain events or yourself using lots of description and having a fun time!

The Girl Behind The Blog!

My name is Hannah. I am 11 years old. I live in Snow Lake Manitoba. I have one sister who is almost 16. I like to hang out with my friends, go on msn, listen to music, watch tv and play hockey. In Snow Lake there is two hockey leagues. One for the younger kids and one for the older kids. It is just a fun league.

This summer I had lots of fun! I went to Kananaskis, Calgary, Drumheller, Dauphin and Brandon. In Kananaskis I went out for walks and looked at the foothills. It had snowed the week before so there was still a little bit of snow on the ground! We were there for three nights because it was my aunties wedding. It was a fun wedding and a nice little resort. We went to Calgary after the wedding. My cousins from Bartlesville Oklahoma came up too. I stayed at my aunties for a little while then my mom left to fly home. I went to my grandma and grandpa’s house after. While in Calgary I went to Calaway Park twice, to the zoo, to the stampede and to the stampede parade. I had a lot of fun! One afternoon I went out to Elbow Falls and then I went fishing near Kananaskis. After I got home from Calgary my mom and I drove down to Dauphin with our brand new car. Little did we know we would get stuck in the Dauphin hailstorm! . The night we got there we were sitting in my baba’s living room watching TV then it started to storm. All of a sudden we heard a big boom so we looked outside. We say a baseball sized hailstone on the lawn so we went inside. All of a sudden it came down. Baseball sized hail, severe thunder and lightning and heavy downpours with 50ml of rain! the wind gusts also got up to 100km. After the storm my baba had three broken windows, some cracked siding and a hole through her roof. Our brand new car was WRECKED! The next day my dad drove the truck down to Dauphin. We got our car towed back to The Pas so it could get fixed. while in Dauphin I stayed at my baba’s and we ate lots of perogies! We also went shopping in Brandon for the day and stayed the night. I had a fun time.

This is some information about me and my summer vacation!
